Choosing the right antenna for your off-roading

If you are an off-road enthusiast, then when you are cruising over land or driving through the jungle. The ability to contact other vehicles in your convoy or to seek emergency help if needed are both vital. A proper off-road antenna will make or break your off-road journey.

How to choose your off-road antenna?

Material: Fiberglass antennas are usually the best choice for 4x4 and off-road drivers. They're the most durable type of antenna and hold up best to the rigors and They're the most durable type of antenna and hold up best to the rigors and abuse of off-road use.

Gain: The higher the gain, the better the antenna will work. High gain means that the antenna will focus the signal in a tight, narrow beam (think of it as a torch beam), while a low unit gain will see the signal radiate in all directions. If you imagine what these signals look like, high gain is more linear, while low unit gain sends the signal in a circular shape around the vehicle.

Easy to install: Easy to install, easy to maneuver, and stronger is better.

Advantages of fiberglass antenna

1. Light weight: Compared with traditional materials such as metal, fiberglass materials are lighter in density and weight.

2. Corrosion resistance: fiberglass antenna is resistant to high temperature, cracking and weathering.

3. Low dielectric constant and low loss of fiberglass antenna can reduce signal reflection and absorption, improve antenna radiation efficiency and frequency bandwidth, and realize more reliable and efficient communication.

4.Fiberglass antenna also has excellent mechanical properties. Compared with traditional metal antennas, fiberglass materials have higher strength, toughness and corrosion resistance.

5. Long service life: because the physical properties and dielectric constant are difficult to change, it can have a long service life.

Installation of off-road antenna

Once you have decided on the right 4WD antenna for you, then you also need to consider the installation. Ideally, the antenna should be as high as possible.

The best location is in the center of the hood or trunk, but some people are concerned about drilling holes in their cars, which is why many people choose to attach the antenna to a crash bar.

Installation Notes

1. To ensure the best antenna gain results, mount the antenna as high as possible.

2. Make sure the mounting surface is bare metal with no powder coating or paint.

3. To ensure signal quality, keep the antenna away from light bars, GPS antennas, cables, roof racks, windshields, ETCs, etc.

4. The cable is too long, cut it or use a tool to shorten it. Avoid excessive coiling of the cable.
