California’s unique climate and fertile land makes it a prime agricultural hub, especially for vegetables. California agriculture encompasses more than 75000 farms that produce more animal and plant commodities annually than any other state in the U.S.. However, the diverse and extensive terrains can pose a significant challenge for farmers striving to maintain effective communication among their teams, especially when dealing with multiple locations spread out over miles of farmlands.
Emily Harper, a California farmer who runs a diverse vegetable farm. Despite mobile coverage, weak signals in warehouses necessitated a reliable alternative. So she consulted Retevis and utilized RT97S GMRS Repeater and RB26 GMRS Walkie Talkies to enhance communication.
“I inherited the vegetable farm from my father, and we cultivate around 20 different types of vegetables year-round, including coriander, celery, and tomatoes,” Emily explained. In the past, the farm primarily focused on growing vegetables that were packaged and sold to factories. However, with the rise of the tourism industry, Emily decided to establish a designated area for visitors, allowing families to engage in vegetable picking and planting experiences.
While my mobile phone network usually covers the farm, certain areas like warehouses and seed storage locations suffer from weak signals, making communication challenging. The operations on my vegetable farm primarily revolve around mechanized planting and harvesting, packaging produce, and managing the experiential park, all of which involve numerous workers who often need their hands free. As a result, relying on mobile phones for communication is impractical.
In response to the above communcation challenges, Emily chose to implement the RT97S GMRS Repeater and RB26 GMRS Portable Walkie Talkies as a more efficient farm radio communication solution for the farm.
Retevis RT97S GMRS Repeater with RB26 GMRS Radios 6Pack Bundle
The RT97 is a beginner-friendly GMRS repeater, when combined with the RB26 GMRS walkie talkies, provides a communication range of 8 to 13 kilometers, depending on the landscape. This setup ensures that even in secluded areas like warehouses or seed storage, workers can easily connect with one another.
Communication equipment is prone to damage during work activities. The expense of acquiring and repairing mobile phones can be significant, and their many functions can lead to distractions. In contrast, the RB26, along with its six-way charging station, is budget-friendly, inexpensive to maintain, and generally has a longer life span compared to mobile phones.
The VOX feature on the RB26 is incredibly useful. When activated, our workers can communicate without needing to press the Push-To-Talk (PTT) button, allowing them to keep their hands free for tasks like packaging or picking vegetables.
RB26 features easy-to-pair function that allows two RB26 GMRS two way radios to pair all channels and CTCSS/DCS codes at the same time without the need for PC software setup, facilitating fast communication between team members.
In conclusion, the integration of Retevis GMRS repeater and handheld radios has transformed communication on Emily’s vegetable farm, enhancing convenience, ensuring reliable contact, and offering an economical farm radio communication solution to meet the unique demands of agricultural work.
