Strengthening Family Connectivity on the Ranch with Retevis

Maintaining consistent communication on the ranch poses significant challenges due to vast distances and varying terrains, highlighting the urgent need for a reliable communication solution to ensure seamless coordination among workers.

Daisy Duarte from Texas shares her experience utilizing the RT97S GMRS Repeater and RB17P GMRS handheld radios to improve communication on her ranch. Daisy and her husband co-manage a ranch that primarily focuses on raising cattle.

Communication Challenges on Daisy's Ranch

“Our ranch is our livelihood, one we operate together to support our three children through the care of our cows and hay,” Daisy explains.

“Every day is incredibly busy, filled with tasks like tending to the cows, ensuring they have fresh water, maintaining clean pens, preventing and treating diseases, and processing feed. We are in the midst of preparing for the arrival of new calves on our dairy farm this coming September and October.”

Despite their hectic daily schedules, Daisy and her husband prioritize spending quality time with their children.

“As our children grow, they’re starting to learn and engage in some of the simpler ranch tasks. However, living in an area surrounded by trees makes it difficult for our phone signals and WiFi to keep us connected. This raises concerns about our children’s safety.”

Retevis Communication Solution for Ranch

To address these communication issues, Daisy turned to Retevis for a reliable communication solution.

After doing some research, Daisy purchased a Retevis RT97S GMRS repeater and 2 pairs of RB17P GMRS two way radios.

“We mounted the antenna high up on a tree, and I found the installation process straightforward. Even without prior experience in working with a repeater, I was able to connect the RB17P easily, thanks to helpful tutorials available on YouTube.”

The RT97S repeater covers nearly all areas of Daisy's pasture, except when she needs to drive milk to distant locations. This equipment significantly compensates for the weak mobile signal, allowing Daisy to reach out to her children whenever necessary.

“I particularly love the NOAA weather feature on the RB17P, helping mitigate potential losses caused by adverse weather conditions on the pasture.,” she added. Also, the Retevis RB17P handheld radios has an orange one-key alarm button that will quickly sound the alarm if an emergency occurs on the ranch.

Looking ahead, Daisy mentioned they might consider planting corn and explore purchasing 2 more RB17P portable radios and a GMRS mobile radio such as RA25 and RA87 to improve their ranch's communication system.
