Building an efficient emergency network: application practice of Retevis RT97S GMRS Repeater and RT76P GMRS Two Way Radio

When responding to natural disasters and emergencies, keeping communications open is critical. In order to strengthen its response capabilities in disasters, the Central Marin Neighborhood Response Groups recently purchased RETEVIS RT97S GMRS repeaters and more than 100 RETEVIS RT76P 5W GMRS Radio to build an efficient and reliable disaster response network.

1. Location

"The terrain in our area is somewhat complex and there are many hilly areas, which brings quite a challenge to communication. Traditional communication methods often have difficulty ensuring stable signal transmission in this terrain. Therefore, we decided to use GMRS technology, combined with high-speed High-performance repeaters and walkie-talkies to build an emergency communications network that can cover a wide area and adapt to complex terrain.”

2. Equipment selection

After many comparisons and tests, we finally chose the RT97S GMRS repeater and RT76P 5W GMRS two way radio of the RETEVIS brand.

RETEVIS RT97S GMRS Repeater:

This repeater has strong signal coverage capabilities and stable transmission performance, and can maintain signal clarity and stability in various complex environments. At the same time, it also has a solar power supply function and can operate for a long time without mains power supply to ensure the continuity of communication. The Retevis RT97S features 8 GMRS repeater channels, a 10W transmitter with 5W full output power after the duplexer, and a built-in notch duplexer. You just need to add an antenna and feeder to broadcast. The RT97S is ideal for solar repeater sites requiring low power consumption and a small footprint. This repeater is compact and portable, making it ideal for camping trips or emergency preparedness or small cell setups (home farms, community communications, school Two Way Radio)

RETEVIS RT76P 5W GMRS Walkie Talkie:

A professional GMRS walkie-talkie with full keyboard design, LCD screen display, simple and easy-to-use operation interface and multiple practical functions, which can meet the communication needs in different scenarios. Keyboard operation ensures that even in the event of a power outage, the keyboard can be used to complete 80% of the functions without the computer. 128 channels, 11 NOAA weather forecast channels, emergency alerts, VOF signaling and other functions.

3. Installation and deployment

We installed the RT97S repeater at a high location in a hilly area and used a solar power supply system to ensure its 24-hour uninterrupted operation. After testing, the repeater has a wide signal coverage and can cover most areas. At the same time, we equipped members with RT76P walkie-talkies and conducted operational training. Members can make calls within a range of 7.2km to achieve fast and accurate information transmission.
