Your cell phones and two-way radios all work in the electromagnetic wave, but the frequency range is different to stay in the rules of communication. UHF and VHF frequency bands are a part of a two-way radio communication range. So, how to know how to choose and applicate the UHF and VHF radios? And what's the VHF frequency range?
The communication range of UHF radio is shortened than VHF radio. Because UHF has a shorter frequency wavelength, it is subject to more interference during propagation, but it is allowed to occupy a larger bandwidth. In the short wavelength of UHF radio, the size of the radio wave is directly related to the transmission length and the receiving antenna. Typically, UHF antennas are short and wide. VHF is commonly used in FM radio(Like NOAA channels work on 162MHz), radio, long-range data communications, and maritime communications(Marine radio like RM40). VHF is very popular in professional applications, the most famous corporate use being Wal-Mart. Since VHF radio waves are longer and suffer less interference during transmission, the call distance is longer than that of UHF.
VHF works between 30MHz to 300MHz.
Here is the frequency range limitation of the VHF application
RT47V, the frequency channels of MURS are:
And the high power of it is 2w. And the communication range is about 2 miles.
Here is the guide to our MURS radios and the main specifications. New commercial VHF radio RT81V is also a good example.
The frequency range is 136-174MHz, and there are 32 channels divided into 2 Zones. It is a DMR long-range radio by high power, so it is a licensed radio.
If your business is allowed to work in the VHF commercial range, you can use this radio in law. If not, the RT47V is also a good choice.
TX:156.025-157.425MHz
RX:156.050-163.275MHz
And the max communication range is about 10nmi, and check the parameters on The RM40 and your sailing life.
